Dordt College is hosting a campus tour and open house on Friday, Oct. 16, to give friends, families, and the general public the opportunity to see new classroom facilities recently completed on campus.

The full campus tour will be offered from the main lobby in Dordt’s Campus Center at 10 a.m.

The new Ribbens Academic Complex open house will be from 1:30-3:30 p.m. This new $5.5 million academic complex provides additional academic space for Dordt’s growing enrollment in art/graphic art, digital media film production, and teacher education.

The Nursing Education Facility will be open for viewing from 2-4 p.m. Dordt began its B.S.N. degree program in 2005, and the enrollment has steadily increased since then, with 100 students currently enrolled. The new facility (converted from residential housing) now offers a laboratory/classroom, study areas, and nursing faculty offices.

In the Ribbens Academic Complex, new teacher education classrooms are equipped with state-of-the-art educational technology in a smart technology classroom; a science methods classroom; and three other new model classrooms. An education faculty suite provides space for education faculty offices and informal learning areas for professors and students to work together.

Digital media and graphic design computer labs are equipped with the latest AVID movie production software and network servers, with more workstations for growing graphic design, web design, animation, and digital media classes.

Art facilities include new areas for sculpting, painting, and print-making, as well as a newly remodeled art gallery and a kiln room. The art department now has 13,000 square feet of centralized studio, photography, digital media, gallery, and office space, and features large studio areas with skylights, extensive built-in cabinetry; vented hood areas, and dust removal systems to improve the efficiency, safety and comfort of students as they learn.

The public is cordially invited to stop by campus on Oct. 16 to take a look at Dordt’s newest facilities.
