Due to illness, the Wednesday performance of  The Caucasian Chalk Circle was cancelled, and a Saturday matinee at 1 p.m. has been added.

Reservations may be made at 722-6430. or on-line.

Think Russian gypsies meet Aladdin, with a thought-provoking theme, original music, exotic costumes, and a whirlwind of sights and sounds.

That’s how director Teresa TerHaar describes Bertolt Brecht’s The Caucasian Chalk Circle.

The performances are being presented at the college’s New World Theatre this year, due to on-going construction at the Te Paske Theatre.

The play has been called a morality masterpiece, revolving around a servant girl who sacrifices everything to protect an abandoned child. She is then forced to confront the boy’s biological mother in a legal contest over who deserves to keep him. The powerful play asks questions about the nature of good and sacrifice.

Ticket prices are $7 for adults and $4 for students in K-12 (the play is not suggested for children under the age of 12). Dordt students may show their student IDs for free admission.
