Dordt Alumni Weekend Sept. 11 and 12

Dordt College will host its annual Alumni Weekend on Friday and Saturday, Sept. 11 and 12.
The highlight of the weekend will be the Ken Davis performance on Saturday night at 7 p.m. in the B.J. Haan Auditorium. He is one of the most sought after speakers in North America, and host of the popular radio show “Lighten Up,” heard daily on over 800 stations across America. Blending humor with inspiration, Davis brings both laughter and a message of hope and encouragement to audiences of all ages. Tickets are $15 in advance or $20 at the door.
In addition to the Ken Davis event on Saturday a variety of social activities and athletic events will be offered to returning alumni and friends of Dordt College.
On Friday an Alumni Business Connections breakfast will be held at 6:45 a.m. in the Campus Center, with guest speaker Kevin De Vries. De Vries is one of three Distinguished Alumni recipients being honored at Dordt this year. He is the president of Exxel Pacific Corporation, one of the largest private construction companies in the state of Washington.
On Friday evening an alumni banquet will honor this year’s Distinguished Alumni Ronald Blankespoor, Chris Teeuwsen, and Kevin De Vries. Blankespoor is a professor of chemistry at Calvin College in Grand Rapids, Mich.; Teeuwsen is an associate professor of music at Redeemer University and an internationally known organist.
Saturday activities begin at 9 a.m., when Dordt alumni face the varsity baseball team at Open Space Park. Kid’s can enjoy a carnival at the tennis courts at 11 a.m., and Dordt football team will take on Waldorf at 1:00 p.m.. During the first half of the football game, KDCR and Culver’s will be co-hosting a “Make Your Own Sundae” event.
Also beginning at 1 p.m., Dordt’s soccer teams will play Trinity International at the soccer fields. At 4 p.m., the Dordt Sowers lacrosse team will have a match with alumni on the football field.
