Kirtland, Westra hired

A physics professor and a natural science engineering technician have joined the list of new faculty and staff who will be serving at Dordt College for the 2009-2010 academic year.

Dr. Joe Kirtland, Ithaca, NY, will teach in Dordt’s physics department. He has a Ph.D. in physics from Cornell University, where he also earned his master’s degree and taught courses as a graduate student. Kirtland received a BChE in Chemical Engineering from The Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art in New York, NY. His special interest in the field of physics is fluid dynamics.

Scott Westra, Hull, began work July 15 as a natural science engineering technician at Dordt. Westra received his associate’s degree in Applied Science from Northwest Iowa Community College, with an emphasis in manufacturing engineering technology. He was previously employed as a manufacturing engineer at Silent Drive, Inc., in Orange City.

The fall semester at Dordt begins Wednesday, August 26.
