Thirteen Dordt College students received their Associate of Science in Nursing (A.S.N.) degree at St. Luke’s College on Friday, May 15. Most of these students will continue their education at Dordt College next year to earn a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (B.S.N.) degree.

The 13 Dordt College students awarded associate nursing degrees were Paula Haan and Jacob Van Oenen, Sioux Center; Jane Kroese, Hull; Nicole Top, Maurice; Abbie Dorhout, Le Mars; Jenni Bleeker, Inwood; Abigail Dykstra and Amy Schroedermeier, Sioux Falls, SD; Katie Vis, Leota, MN; Ashley Segaar, Ripon, CA; Lindy Talsma, Jenison, MI; Melodie VandenBorn, Edmonton, AB; and Jenna Heerema, Thunder Bay, ON.

Dykstra graduated Summa Cum Laude (3.90-4.00 GPA), while Schroedermeier, Segaar, and VandenBorn graduated Magna Cum Laude (3.71-3.89 GPA). Jane Kroese graduated Cum Laude (3.5-3.7 GPA).

Earlier in the day a pinning ceremony was conducted, with nursing pins presented to the graduates. Speaking at commencement was Priscilla Stokes, vice-president and Patient Care CNO at St. Luke’s Regional Medical Center.

These students are now eligible to take the state board licensure examination to become a Registered Nurse (R.N.), and can build upon their St. Luke’s A.S.N. degree to earn a Dordt College B.S.N. degree with a final year of study.

Dordt College and St. Luke’s College have a collaborative nursing program, allowing students to work toward a bachelor degree by doing their classroom studies at Dordt, while obtaining their clinical experience via St. Luke’s College and St. Luke’s Regional Medical Center. For more information see
