Dordt College will celebrate commencement of the 2009 graduating class at a ceremony in the B.J. Haan Auditorium on Friday, May 8, at 10 a.m.

This year’s graduating class consists of 300 students, with 272 Baccalaureate degrees, 22 Associate of Arts degrees, and six Master of Education degrees awarded. Degrees conferred include Associate of Arts, Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Science in Engineering, Bachelor of Science in Nursing, Bachelor of Social Work, and Master of Education degrees.

A reception for family and friends will follow in the recreation center, hosted by Dordt’s Alumni Association. Speaker for the ceremony is Dr. Charles Veenstra, professor of communication at Dordt College, whose topic is “Children of the Light.”

Dr. Veenstra earned a B.A. in communication at Dordt College; a M.A. degree at Northern Illinois University, and a Ph.D. at the University of Nebraska Lincoln. He’s taught a wide range of communication courses at Dordt College over the past 33 years and is currently chair of the department. Dr. Veenstra and his wife Marlene have four grown children, all of whom also graduated from Dordt College.

Seating in the B.J. Haan Auditorium is by ticket only and has been reserved for immediate family members of the graduates. Additional seating, with a live video feed, will be available in the Science and Technology Center (S101 and S108) and in the upper level of the Campus Center (Room 318).
