Two Dordt College music majors will share the spotlight Thursday, April 30, as they present a joint recital.

Violinist Elizabeth Walters and Trombonist John Rutgers will present their recital at 7:30 p.m. in the choir room at the southeast corner of the B.J. Haan Auditorium. Also participating in the recital will be Rachel De Smith and Amanda Stout on piano, and Joseph Slegers on cello.

Walters is a senior from Gardner, KS, the daughter of Tom and Julie Walters. Her emphasis at Dordt is performance and pedagogy, and her violin instructor is Eunho Kim. Walters’ portion of the program features a trio by Beethoven with an interesting set of themes and variations.

Rutgers is a senior from Lynden, WA, the son of Gerald and Tammy Rutgers. His emphasis is also performance and pedagogy. Rutgers’ trombone instructor at Dordt is Vance Shoemaker.

A reception will follow the performance, and the public is invited to attend.
