Bands and orchestra will perform May 1

The Dordt College Concert Band, Campus-Community Band, and Chamber Orchestra will present a concert Friday, May 1, at 7:30 p.m. in the B.J. Haan Auditorium.
Following the concert the Dordt Jazz Band will be featured in a soirée at the Campus Center, starting at about 9:30 p.m. Admission for both the concert and soirée is free, with a free-will offering received to benefit music scholarships at Dordt College.
The bands and orchestra are directed by Bradley Miedema. Featured works in the concert include:
• “Aria from Bachianas Brasileiras No. 5” with a violin solo by Heather Hooyer, and a full orchestra performance of “Rosamunde Ballet Music No. 2” by Franz Schubert;
• “Dedicatory Overture” by Clifton Williams and “National Emblem March” by E. E. Bagley performed by the Campus-Community Band;
• Bach’s “Fantasia in G Major” and Schuman’s “George Washington Bridge” presented by the Concert Band.
Dordt’s Jazz Band is directed by Scott Olson. It features a dynamic percussion section, along with the best of the brass for the soirée following the concert.
