Blades ACHA National Tournament Schedule is Set
February 15, 2009The Dordt Blades have secured a trip to the ACHA Division 3 National Tournament in Rochester, NY by virtue of their second place position in the final rankings of the ACHA's Pacific Division. The Blades are 17-4-1-1 overall and 12-0-1-0 in the NCCHA heading into this weekend's games with Iowa.
The top two teams from each of the four divisions receive byes into the ACHA National Tournament and do not play in their respective regional tournaments. The Blades were ranked third in the first set of rankings which were released in late October and since that time Dordt has held the number 2 spot in their division for the the entire season trailing only Northern Arizona University which has garnered every first place vote this year.
Sixteen teams will play for the ACHA D3 National Championship which begins on Wednesday, March 4 and runs through Saturday, March 7. The eight teams receiving automatic berths in to the tournament were: Hope and Saginaw Valley from the North; Albany and Farmingdale State from the Atlantic; Florida Gulf Coast and Georgia Tech from the South and Northern Arizona and Dordt from the Pacific.
The other 8 teams were determined by divisional tournaments, including the Pacific Regional Tournament which was played at the Vernon Arena in Sioux Center, Iowa. The top two teams from each divisional tournament also advanced to nationals and were seeded in their respective pools at the national tournament based on their final division ranking.
Dordt's first game at nationals will be against Fredonia State at 10:00 am on Wednesday, March 4th. The Blades will play one game each of the 4 days of the tournament. The games will be video streamed and a link will be posted as soon as it becomes available.
The #3 ranked team from the North Division, Calvin College, was eliminated from the tournament by virtue of a 4-1 loss to #9 ranked Delta Community.
