Music Audition Day at Dordt College

January 16, 2009

High school students interested in music scholarships at Dordt College are invited to contact the college to set up an audition during the music department’s special high school visit day, Friday, Jan. 23.

Participants will have the opportunity to meet music department faculty and faculty from other departments by appointment; tour the campus (including the music department’s digital music studio); participate in choral and instrumental rehearsals; and attend a Dordt student recital.

Participants are also welcome to attend a Friday night organ performance by Dordt’s Artist-in-Residence, the internationally acclaimed Dr. Robert Horton. He will perform on Dordt’s Casavant three-manual tracker-action pipe organ, which is one of the finest in the Midwest. Dordt’s music department also offers students a Steinway concert grand piano for practice and performances, a Yamaha Disklavier, a two-manual Dekker harpsichord, a variety of mechanical action and electro-pneumatic pipe organs, and upright pianos in practice rooms.

More than 300 U.S. and international students participate in the music program at Dordt, with opportunities to perform in four choral groups, two orchestras, and three bands. The college annually awards 165 music scholarships to students participating in the program.

Students planning to attend are asked to call Dordt’s toll free number, 1-800-343-6738 (Option 1-Admissions), in advance. Guests will receive a complementary noon meal and overnight accommodations if needed.
