Biology Research presentations Wed., Dec. 10

The Dordt College biology department is hosting a Senior Research Presentation Night on Wednesday, Dec. 10, in the Science and Technology Building Lecture Hall S108.

Eleven seniors will present their work, beginning at 4 p.m. and concluding by 8 p.m. They are as follow:

• 4 p.m.: “Antimicrobial Effects of the Leaves of Moringa Oleifera” by Kayla Breems (Prinsburg, MN)
• 4:15 p.m.: “Agrobacterium – Mediated Genetic Transformation of Scenedesmus” by Steven Veurink (Harrisburg, SD)
• 4:30 p.m.: “Cux1 Expression in Developing and Mature Siberian Hamster Testes, Specifically the Sertoli Cells” by Cory Warden (Pella, IA)
• 4:45 p.m.: Pizza Break
• 5 p.m.: “Dietary Effect on Shoaling Behavior in the Guppy” by Siam Grobler (Red Deer, AB)
• 5:20 p.m.: “Effect of Lactoferrin and Lysozyme on Salmonella typhimurium Infection in Mice” by Sara Hanenburg (Milaca, MN)
• 5:40 p.m.: “The Teratogenic Effects of Thalidomide on the Development of the Zebrafish Embryo” by Steph Helmus (Caledonia, MI)
• 6 p.m.: “Role of Cux-1 in the Notch Signaling Pathway during Embryonic Kidney Development” by Joy Horstman (Sioux Center, IA)
• 6:20 p.m.: “The Histological Analysis of Several Genes in the Mouse Testes” by Melissa Kroll (Sioux Center, IA)
• 6:40 p.m.: “Efficacy of Different Antimycotic Treatments on Aspergilus” by Danny Priest (Waterloo, IA)
• 7 p.m.: “A Seed Bank Comparison of a Remnant Prairie and Restoration Project” by Sarah Sikkema (Ridgetown, ON)
• 7:20 p.m.: “Phototaxis in Euglena gracilis: the Effects of Caffeine, Sodium Metavanadate and the Circadian Rhythm” by Cory Van Dyke (Hudsonville, MI).
