High School Hands-on Nursing Day is Dec. 5

November 24, 2008

The Dordt College Nursing Department invites high school students to a campus visit day on Friday, December 5, from 8:15 a.m.-5:30 p.m.

Registration and a complimentary continental breakfast begin at 8:15 a.m. in the Campus Center Eckardt Lounge, followed by a campus tour at 8:45.

Hands-on nursing activities will be held from 10 a.m. until noon, when attendees join the nursing faculty for a complementary luncheon.

Students will tour St. Luke’s College and Regional Medical Center in Sioux City in the afternoon.

St. Luke’s is a collaborative partner in Dordt’s Bachelor of Science in Nursing (B.S.N.) major. In the first year of the program students take core program courses. This is followed by four semesters of basic nursing education taken in collaboration with St. Luke’s. Upon successful completion of these four semesters, students are awarded an Associate of Science in Nursing (A.S.N.) from St. Luke’s and are eligible to take the state board licensure examination to become a Registered Nurse (R.N.) in their junior year. A final year at Dordt College taking upper division nursing courses completes requirements for a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree.
