Haley to speak at Dordt College Sept. 18
September 11, 2008
Focus on the Family’s youth and gender analyst, Mike Haley, will speak at Dordt College on Thursday, Sept. 18, at 7:30 p.m. in the B.J. Haan Auditorium. He will also be the guest speaker at the 10:50 a.m. chapel service in the B.J. Haan. Both are open to the public.
Haley lived the homosexual lifestyle for 12 years and now has a ministry to and for homosexuals, speaking nationwide at conferences. Haley tells his own story and offers a biblical understanding and a Christian response to homosexuality. An interview with Haley will also be aired on KDCR’s Conversations with Dr. Carl E. Zylstra on Friday, Sept. 19, at 8 a.m.
The insight Mike Haley offers young people into the causes and treatment of homosexuality comes from his own experience as a gay teen and young adult. Since 1992, Mike has shared that insight in interviews with national and local media and through documentary videos such as Reaching into the Closet and A Journey Out, in which he discusses his own path out of homosexuality. Haley is now married, with two children.
A desire to educate and protect youth led Haley to earn a Christian education degree and then work as a mental health counselor specializing in the treatment of adolescent personality disorders. He has also been a youth pastor for one of the largest churches in Memphis, TN, and is currently employed by Focus on the Family, where he coordinates and speaks at Love Won Out conferences, which offer information on the causes and prevention of homosexuality.
Haley has written for such publications as Single Parent and Plugged In and recently produced a Focus booklet called Straight Answers: Exposing the Myths and Facts about Homosexuality. He is also on the board of directors of Exodus International, the first ministry to offer men and women the hope that they could come out of homosexuality.
