Bogaard, De Vries hired at Dordt College
September 9, 2008
Steve Bogaard, Orange City, is the new natural science laboratory coordinator at Dordt College, and Rebecca De Vries, Sioux Center, has begun work as an international and intercultural affairs coordinator.
Steve Bogaard will be in charge of purchasing, tracking inventory, and preparing laboratory materials, solutions, organisms, and equipment for science classes. He will also provide general assistance to other academic departments in the science building, assist with maintenance of scientific equipment, and work with faculty to develop and modify labs.
He was previously employed at Boehringer Ingelheim Vetmedica as a team leader in Antigen Production and Central Services. Bogaard has also worked as a quality control chemist and manufacturing lab chemist at other businesses. Bogaard earned his B.A. at Northwestern College in Orange City, where he majored in biology and health professions.
Rebecca De Vries will provide support services to international students in her part-time role as international and intercultural affairs coordinator. Her assistance to these students includes linking them with people/services they might need, coordinating the host family program, working alongside the Student Without Borders Club, and assisting with the annual culture fair.
Rebecca (Schelhaas,’02) De Vries earned her B.A. at Dordt College. She returns to Sioux Center with husband Laremy, who is teaching philosophy at Dordt this year.
Volunteer families who would like to be paired with an international student in the host family program should contact De Vries.
Two other Dordt employees have moved into other positions at the college:
Sandy Reitsma began her new duties in the computer center as a computer support specialist in August. She had previously served as an instructional technology assistant in the library.
Missy Mulder is now secretary for the music department and NISO (Northwest Iowa Symphony Orchestra). She had previously worked in the Campus Center as an information desk receptionist, and most recently was an internship coordinator for the business administration department.
