Fourteen Dordt College students received their Associate of Science in Nursing (A.S.N.) degree at St. Luke’s College on Friday, May 16. Most of these students will continue their education at Dordt College next year to earn a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (B.S.N.) degree.
Dordt College and St. Luke’s College currently collaborate in a 1-2-1 program, allowing students to work toward a bachelor degree by doing their classroom studies at Dordt, while obtaining their clinical experience via St. Luke’s College and St. Luke’s Regional Medical Center.
The 14 Dordt College students awarded associate nursing degrees at St. Luke’s College May 16 were Amy Bruinsma, Abbotsford, BC; Janell Christians, Sioux Center, IA; Mindy Droge, Manhattan, MT; Natalie Feenstra, Everson, WA; Laura Gesink, Montrose, CO; Julie Heida, Kuna, ID; Tina Heilman, Orange City, IA; Katie Roder, Ashton, IA; Katelin Rozenboom, Sioux Falls, SD; Emily Schoenfelder, Dimock, SD; Elizabeth Sikkens, Fenwick, ON; Nichole Timmer, Milaca, MN; Emily Tuschen and Tonia Zwart, Sioux Center, IA.

Earlier in the day a pinning ceremony was conducted, with nursing pins presented to the graduates. Speaking at commencement was William Leaver, president and CEO of Iowa Health System.
These students are now eligible to take the state board licensure examination to become a Registered Nurse (R.N.), and can build upon their St. Luke’s A.S.N. degree to earn a Dordt College B.S.N. degree with a final year of study.
