Commencement held May 9

Dordt College celebrated commencement of the 2008 graduating class at a ceremony in the B.J. Haan Auditorium on Friday, May 9, at 10 a.m.

This year’s graduating class consisted of 273 students, with 250 Baccalaureate degrees, 19 Associate of Arts degrees, and four Master of Education degrees awarded.

Degrees conferred included Associate of Arts, Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Science in Engineering, Bachelor of Science in Nursing, Bachelor of Social Work, and Master of Education degrees.

A reception for family and friends followed in the recreation center, hosted by Dordt’s Alumni Association.

Speaker for the ceremony was Jerelyn Schelhaas, Instructor of Theater Arts and English at Dordt College, as well as a Dordt College alumna. Schelhaas served the theater department 20 years, teaching, directing productions, and supervising student work. Schelhaas was recently awarded the Region 5 Gold Medallion Award at the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival (KCACTF), based on extraordinary contributions to the teaching/producing of theatre, and significant contributions to the development of collegiate level theatre art. Schelhaas spoke on the topic, “What Will You Name It?”
