Dordt College’s concert band and chamber orchestra will present a concert Friday, April 25, at 7:30 p.m. in the B.J. Haan Auditorium.

Both ensembles are under the direction of Dr. Henry Duitman.

The Chamber Orchestra will present two pieces for full orchestra, “Finlandia” by Sibelius and “What Wondrous Love” in an arrangement by Cassler. Senior Andrea LeMahieu will be the featured piccolo soloist with the orchestra on “Piccolo Concerto” by Vivaldi, and senior Brandon Wipf will make his conducting debut with the orchestra performing a song from Menotti’s opera, “Amahl and the Night Visitors.”

The Concert Band will present “Four Dances from West Side Story,” and “October” by Whitacre. The concert finale will feature Dr. Robert Horton on the organ, performing with the band the majestic “Alleluia! Laudamus Te,” by Alfred Reed.

Admission to this performance is free, with a freewill offering received to benefit music scholarships at Dordt College. A reception will be held after the concert in honor of departing music faculty members, Dr. Duitman and Dr. Horton.

More than 300 U.S. and international students participate in the music program at Dordt, with opportunities to perform in four choral groups, two orchestras, and three bands. Music scholarships are available to qualified students.
