Regional vocal competition held at Dordt College

The spring voice competition for the Lewis and Clark Chapter of the National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS) was held at Dordt College on Saturday, April 5.

Eighty-three vocalists from eight colleges participated in the competition, together with accompanists and instructors. Schools represented were Briar Cliff, Buena Vista, Dordt, Morningside, Mount Marty, Northwestern, University of Omaha, and Wartburg Colleges, as well as private voice studios from Fort Dodge and Dubuque.

Auditions were held throughout the morning, with approximately half of the students advancing to the second round in the afternoon. From these semi-finals, the top musicians were chosen to present an Honors Recital at 4 p.m. on Saturday.

Schaap

Dordt College had 16 singers, with seven accompanists. Several advanced to the semi-final round, and two were selected to perform in the Honors Recital: they were Brittany Haan, Sioux Center; and Nathan Schaap, Sioux Falls, SD.

Accompanists were Jessica Assink, Walnut Creek, CA; Cacey Byker, Hawarden, IA; Rachel De Smith, Sioux Center, IA; Janaye De Winkle, Ripon, CA; Elaine Hannink, Modesto, CA; Karyn Regnerus, Doon, IA; and Kristen Vande Griend, Sioux Center, IA.
