February 24, 2008

Walters, Assink

Violinist Elizabeth Walters and pianist Jessica Assink will present a student recital at Dordt College’s B.J. Haan Auditorium Friday, Feb. 29, at 7:30 p.m.

Walters is a junior attending Dordt from Gardner, KS, who majors in music performance and pedagogy. Assink is a senior from Walnut Creek, CA, who is majoring in English and minoring in music performance. Also participating in the recital will be students Joseph Sleger, cello; and on piano Amanda Stout and Rachel De Smith.

The recital will cover a wide range of styles, from Baroque to Romantic. Walters said a particularly fun piece in her repertoire is “Sicilienne and Rigaudon” by Fritz Kreisler, which begins as a slow dance and has an exciting finale.

Assink noted repertoire by Beethoven, Chopin, and Brahms, as well as a Romanian dance by the 20th Century composer Béla Bartók.

Walters’ private instructor at Dordt is Eunho Kim, while Assink is under the instruction of Mary Lou Wielenga.

The public is invited to this free recital and a reception following the performance.
