From Minneapolis venues to the B.J. Haan Auditorium, Tricia Van Ee and Chandler Molbert will be guest vocalists at Dordt College on Friday, Jan. 25, at 7:30 p.m.

Soprano Tricia Van Ee graduated from Dordt College in 2002 and holds a Master of Music degree from the University of Minnesota. She has sung several roles with the University Opera Theater, including Mimi in La Boheme, Miss Jessel in The Turn of the Screw, Donna Anna in Don Giovanni, and Antonia in Les Contes d'Hoffmann.

Van Ee has won numerous scholarships and competitions in the Twin Cities, including first place in the Schubert Club’s annual competition, and a scholarship for study at the prestigious Mozarteum Internationale Sommerakademie in Salzburg. She has been a soloist with several chamber orchestras in the Minneapolis area.

Bass-baritone Chandler Molbert also holds a Master of Music degree from the University of Minnesota and has continued study there in the D.M.A. (Doctor of Musical Arts) program. He has appeared in several operas with the University Opera Theater, most recently including Colline in La Boheme, Frank Maurrant in Street Scene, and Masetto in Don Giovanni. Also an avid oratorio soloist, Molbert was recently a bass soloist with the St. Mark’s Cathedral Choir in Bach’s St. John Passion and Faure’s Requiem; and with the Minnesota Oratorio Society in Bach’s Magnificat and Mozart’s Requiem.

Van Ee and Molbert met at the University of Minnesota while both pursuing graduate studies, and were married in 2007.

Their pianist for the evening is Julian Ward, who did his graduate study in the accompanying and vocal coaching program at the University of Minnesota. Ward has served as a staff pianist with opera companies in Utah, Nevada, and Chautauqua Opera. Since 2002 he’s been with the Minnesota Opera, as well as assisting with University Opera Theater productions, and as a collaborative pianist and vocal coach in the Twin Cities area.

The program at Dordt College includes music composed by Richard Strauss, Johannes Brahms, Samuel Barber, and George Butterworth. Opera selections include an aria and a duet from Don Giovanni; an aria from The Seraglio; an aria from La Boheme; and “Ah! Fors’e lui...Sempre libera” from La Traviata.

This guest recital is sponsored by the Dordt College Music Department. There is no cost to attend.
