Christmas concert Friday, Dec. 14

December 7, 2007

The Dordt College Concert Choir, Women’s Chorus, and Kantorei will present a Christmas concert Friday, Dec. 14, at 7:30 p.m. in the B.J. Haan Auditorium.

The Women’s Chorus will share Christmas carols from around the world, including Germany’s “Stille Nacht”; “Patapan” from France; and from Puerto Rico, “Villancico.” Their portion of the program also includes “Still a Bach Lullaby,” which incorporates Gounod’s “Ave Maria” and “Still, Still, Still.”

Dordt’s 52-voice concert choir will be performing the masterworks of Victoria and Brahms, recently composed works by Gjeilo and Mignemi, and Vaclav Nelhybel’s brilliant “Estampie Natalis,” with viola, cello, piccolo and percussion accompaniment.

The program for the Kantorei ensemble includes carols from the 15th, 16th, 17th, and 20th centuries, plus a few traditional songs for carolers.

Admission is free, with an offering received to benefit music scholarships at Dordt College.
