November 19, 2007

SleethDr. J. Matthew Sleeth, author of Serve God, Save the Planet and executive director for A Rocha USA, will speak at Dordt College on Tuesday and Wednesday, November 27 and 28. Accompanying Dr. Sleeth and leading classroom discussions will be Ben Lowe, also from A Rocha, an international Christian nature conservation organization.

Dr. Sleeth will be the chapel speaker on Tuesday morning at 10:50 a.m., with an evening presentation Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. in the Science Building Lecture Hall SB 101. Following his presentation, Dordt's Justice Matters and Creation Care clubs will have canvas totes available for purchase, along with free non-toxic paint and stencils for anyone who wants to personalize their environmentally friendly bags.

Serve God, Save The PlanetDr. Sleeth is formerly an emergency room doctor and hospital chief of staff. His concern for the environment was kindled by a dramatic increase in environmentally-related illnesses among his patients. In his personal and spiritual journey toward environmental stewardship, Dr. Sleeth sold his oversized home, gave away more than half of his material possessions, and now devotes much of his time and energy toward environmental care.

In sharing the everyday changes he has made to reduce his footprint, Dr. Sleeth challenges listeners to consider how they can be less materialistic and live a godly, equitable, and meaningful life.
