The Dordt College Justice Matters Club invites the entire campus community to a STAND UP! event Wednesday, Oct. 17, at 5 p.m. in front of the Campus Center.

In 2000, every nation in the world signed the Millenium Development Goals which set eight goals relating to poverty which the leaders of the world agreed to meet. They promised to cut extreme poverty in half by 2015 and make it history by 2025. They are not on track to meet their goals.

STAND UP! is designed to send a message to the worlds leaders that we (the citizens of the planet) have not forgotten about their promise. On Wednesday, people all arround the world will stand up together in protest.

Last year, there were over 25 million participents arround the world. This year, they are trying to set the world record. Join us for about 15 minutes and take a stand (literally) against poverty. Help make poverty history.

"Simply standing may sound insignificant, but it will be documented with pictures and a final count will be taken and sent into Bread for the World to be included in a final tally. It's exciting to be a part of a movement so global, our representatives in government will no doubt see a generation standing for change," said Micah Schuurman.
