Parents' Weekend Oct. 19-20

Family and friends are invited to the campus of Dordt College Oct. 19 and 20 for a weekend of fun and entertainment, featuring a music festival, theater production, and sporting events.
The Dordt Theatre Arts Department will offer Parents' Weekend performances of The Winter’s Tale on Thursday and Saturday nights at 7:30 p.m. in the Te Paske Theatre, a 2 p.m. matinee on Saturday afternoon, as well as four performances for the general public nightly the following week, Oct. 24-27. To make reservations for any of these performances, call the box office at 722-6430 (Monday-Thursday 1-5 and 7-9; Friday 1-5 p.m.) or reserve tickets on-line.
The Dordt College Music Department will present a Fall Music Festival Friday evening at 7:30 p.m. in the B.J. Haan Auditorium. Most of the college’s instrumental and choral groups will participate in the concert, which is free and open to the public.
Campus tours will be available throughout the day Friday, and parents of students have been invited to attend classes with their children.
On Friday night, Defender JV volleyball begins at 6 p.m. in De Witt Gymnasium, with varsity action starting at 7:30 p.m. Both teams will play Dana College. The Dordt Blades will be playing Creighton University at 7 p.m. in the All Seasons Center.
Star gazing will be offered (weather permitting) from 8-10 p.m. from the rooftop science building observatory. Weekend guests are also invited to a reception at Dordt’s recreation center from 9:30-10:30. Comedy League will close out the evening entertainment, at the B.J. Haan Auditorium at 10:30 p.m.
Saturday morning activities include a President’s Brunch and a Siblings’ Brunch, followed by the opportunity to visit with faculty at the Rec Center at 10:15. A men’s basketball scrimmage vs. Iowa Lake Community College will begin at 10:30 a.m. in De Witt Gymnasium.
Academics in Action model classes will be open to guests at 11:15 a.m., and the Dordt College Jazz Band will perform in the Campus Center at noon, under the direction of Dr. Robert Horton.
Saturday afternoon sports action includes women’s soccer versus Mount Marty on the Dordt Soccer Field at 1 p.m. and men’s soccer versus Mount Marty at 3 p.m. At 4 p.m. the lacrosse team will play on the field east of the chapel. At 5 p.m., the Dordt Blades will have a rematch with Creighton University at the All Seasons Center.
Saturday evening sports action includes the women’s volleyball teams meeting Midland Lutheran at the De Witt Gym, with the JV game starting at 6 p.m. and the varsity game at 7:30 p.m.
The evening concludes with an 8 p.m. Praise and Worship service at the B.J. Haan, followed by a complimentary ice cream social in the commons at 9:15 p.m.
