Van Maanen is a senior instrumental music education major at Dordt College. She is the daughter of David and Betty Vande Griend, Hull, and the wife of Philip Van Maanen.

Also participating in the recital will be Helen Van Beek, accompanist; and a woodwind quintet including Kristen Vande Griend (flute), Ashley Kasper (oboe), Bethany Colvin (bassoon), and Rachel De Smith (french horn).

Van Maanen said her favorite piece in the recital is “Sonata for Clarinet and Piano” by Francis Poulence, which has many styles ranging from serene to sassy, making it both challenging and enjoyable. She will also perform Mozart's "Clarinet Concerto in A:Adagio" and Quet's "Petite Pièce.”
