Guest organ recital March 30

March 23, 2007

Organist Anna Myeong will present a recital at Dordt College’s B.J. Haan Auditorium on Friday, March 30, at 3 p.m. Myeong will also discuss her experiences as an international student and performer, sharing how young artists can establish themselves in this field.

Myeong is from Seoul, Korea, and received her Bachelor of Music degree in organ performance from Yonsei University in 1990. She studied organ with MyungJa Cho, HeeSung Kim, and InHyung Cho in Korea, and received her master’s degree with honors in 2005 at the University of Kansas.

She is currently the organist at Trinity Lutheran Church in Mission, Kansas, where she is also pursuing a Doctor of Musical Arts degree under the direction of James Higdon at the University of Kansas. Myeong’s other studies have included masterclasses with Michael Bauer, James Kibbie, John Grew, and Marie-Claire Alain. In 2006, she attended an organ interpretation course in Romainmôtier, Switzerland, and had the opportunity to study with Marie-Claire Alain and Guy Bovet.

Since her organ recital at Washington National Cathedral in 2005, she has had her recitals throughout the United States. Her recital schedule in ’06-07 includes Saint Thomas Church in New York City, Princeton University Chapel in New Jersey, Grace Cathedral in San Francisco, Notre-Dame Cathedral in Paris, and Fourth Presbyterian Church in Chicago.

Her program for the recital at Dordt March 30 includes “Improvisation sur le Te Deum” by Charles Tournemire; “Prière” by César Franck; and “Dieu parmi nous” by Olivier Messiaen.

The recital is free and open to the public, sponsored by the Dordt College Music Department.
