Heynen Hired in HPER, Athletics Departments

SIOUX CENTER, IA – Dordt College has announced the hiring of Dr. Craig Heynen in the Health/Physical Education/Recreation department for the 2007-2008 academic year. He will also work as head track and field coach in the spring of 2008. The position opening is due to the retirement of Dr. Syne Altena at the conclusion of the 2006-2007 school year.

Currently Heynen is working as an assistant professor at the University of South Dakota, Vermillion. Heynen’s experience includes various basketball and track and field coaching responsibilities at Mount Vernon Christian School in Mount Vernon, Wash., and San Jose Christian School in San Jose, Calif.

Heynen has an Ed.D. in Curriculum and Instruction with an emphasis in Physical Education from the University of South Dakota. He earned his Master’s degree at Emporia State University, and his bachelor’s degree at Dordt College in 1990.

While at Dordt College Heynen was a four year member of the track and field team. He earned most valuable athlete honors at Dordt in 1988 and 1990.
Heynen and his wife Karen have been living near Sioux Center since 2004 with their three children, Joshua (10), Joel (6) and Anna (2).
