Distinguished Scholar recipients named

Nine seniors from the United States and Canada have been selected for Distinguished Scholar Awards and the accompanying scholarships at Dordt College in Sioux Center, Iowa, for the 2007-2008 academic year.

This year 61 applicants met eligibility standards for the $10,000 scholarship, which is awarded to incoming freshmen applicants based on cumulative high school G.P.A., scores on ACT/SAT exams and by means of an essay written during Distinguished Scholar Day activities conducted at Dordt College in February.

Those chosen as Distinguished Scholars for the upcoming year include Bethany Bierma, Sioux Center; Luke Schut and Allison Vande Zande, Pella, IA; Joel Penning, Lemmon S.D.; Emily Walters, Gardner, KS; Jeremy West, Oceanside, CA; and Rachel Koopmans, Chatham, ON.

Distinguished Scholar Awards are the highest recognition of academic excellence offered by Dordt's Office of Scholarships and Grants. The scholarship awarded to these students is renewable for an additional three consecutive years, based on continued good academic standing.

Dordt College is a four-year, liberal arts institution located in Sioux Center, Iowa, ranked among the top Midwest Comprehensive Colleges by U.S. News and World Report. Dordt annually offers about $15 million in financial aid to 95 percent of the students who attend.
