Hope Haven thanks Dordt College with plaque
April 6, 2006
Hope Haven recently presented recognition plaques to area employers that offer work to Hope Haven clients. The plaques note a commitment to employing persons with disabilities through the Community Based Employment (CBE) Program.
Dordt College has employed Hope Haven clients since 1998. CBE matches workers to employment opportunities in each worker’s community. Success in supporting people with disabilities depends on employers willing to give workers a chance, and currently there are more than 50 businesses in the area that do so.
Stan Oordt (director of Dordt’s physical plant) provides oversight for CBE workers from Hope Haven. Oordt said, “We appreciate the work that the Hope Haven staff and clients do to keep our campus neat and clean. They are a nice complement to our own maintenance team.”
Lila Kempers supervises the CBE team of Brady Netten, Adam McCloskey, Mark Engel on Dordt’s campus. Faculty, staff and students are encouraged to thank these workers for the great job they do on Dordt's campus.
Through Hope Haven supported employment opportunities, clients receive vocational training and services including job development, placement and coaching, social integration, facilitation of good co-worker relationships, and training for maximal transportation independence.
