Ms. Kathryn (Kate) Fuller Vander Veen of Ocheyedan, Iowa, has been hired as a nursing instructor for the B.S.N. (Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree) program at Dordt College.

Vander Veen has 22 years nursing experience with the United States Air Force, where she served as a staff nurse, nursing manager and supervisor, operating room nurse, flight nurse, nursing quality assurance officer, hyperbaric nurse, family nurse practitioner and medical information systems consultant. She was a Lieutenant Colonel at Falls Church, Va., prior to her recent retirement from the Air Force.

Vander Veen earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing at the University of Utah, followed by a Master of Science in Nursing at Uniformed Services University.

“I very much look forward to working with the faculty, staff and students of Dordt,” said Vander Veen, who while in the military always looked forward to staying in one place long enough to plant a garden and watch it grow. “Living here now, quite literally, I will be planting a garden, and watching it grow. In a way, my interactions with the nursing students will be much the same. I will have the opportunity to cultivate young nurses to not only grow in their nursing skills but also their faith and doing what God has called them to do.”

Recently married to Randy Vander Veen, the couple will be living on a farm near Harris.
