The Dordt College Concert Choir will perform in concert at the B.J. Haan Auditorium in Sioux Center on Friday, March 24, at 7:30 p.m.

This free concert is the final stop on the choir’s six state tour of Iowa, Nebraska, Colorado, New Mexico, Arizona, and California.

Dordt College’s 53-voice choir is under the direction of Dr. Benjamin Kornelis, and this year was invited to perform at the North Central Division American Choral Directors convention in Omaha.

The program for the evening includes a wide range of music, from a Sicilian folksong never before presented in North America, to arrangements of old familiar hymns. Contemporary selections include a “re-arrangement” of a Bach chorale; “Past Life Melodies,” with elaborate vocal overtones; and a powerful song of praise by the Polish composer Józef Swider.

A pair of love songs, “When I'm 64,” and “A Boy and a Girl,” are sure to be audience favorites, while a Psalm setting by Sweelinck and an arrangement of a very old Dutch Christmas carol are tributes to the heritage of the Dutch Reformed.

Lisa De Vries will be the soloist in Schubert’s “The Omnipotence,” with Brian De Young as accompanist for the concert.

Admission to the concert is free, with a free-will donation being received to help defray tour expenses.
