Dordt College bands to perform March 6

Concert Band

Dordt College’s Campus-Community Band, Concert Band and Jazz Band will present a concert Monday, March 6, at 7:30 p.m. in the B.J. Haan Auditorium. The concert is free, with a freewill offering received to benefit music scholarships at Dordt College.

The program for the Campus-Community Band (Dr. Henry Duitman, conductor) includes: “Army of the Nile March,” “Petty Harbour,” “The Stone Guest” (based on Mozart’s “Don Giovanni”) “Dazzling Drums” featuring snare drum soloist David Lesage, and “From Whom All Blessings Flow.”

The program for the Dordt College Concert Band (Dr. Henry Duitman, conductor) includes: “Festive Overture by Shostakovich,” “O Magnum Mysterium” by Lauridsen, “Introduction, Theme, and Variations for Clarinet” with senior soloist Shirley Van Engen, and “Lincolnshire Posy” by Grainger.

Featuring music from the Big Band Era will be the Dordt College Jazz Band (Norm Gaines, conductor). Their program for the evening includes: “Sing, Sing Sing,” “Chattanooga Choo Choo,” “Mack The Knife,” “That’s The Way It Is,” “The Nearness Of You,” “Hot, Hot, Hot,” and “Smoke Gets In Your Eyes.”
