Harp recital March 3 at Dordt College

Anna Vorhes, a harpist and harp instructor from Sioux Falls, will present a recital at Dordt Collegeís B.J. Haan Auditorium on Friday, March 3, at 7:30 p.m.

Vorhes is the adjunct harp instructor at Dordt College and other area colleges. Her program March 3 is drawn from experiences at the World Harp Congress in Dublin last summer. It includes Renaissance pieces transcribed by English harpist David Watkins; religious pieces by Franz Liszt, and a piece written specifically for Vorhes, Christ My Courteous Lord by Stephen Yarbrough. Also on the program are pieces by Chavarri, John Morley, John Dowland, Henry Chalmers, Susann McDonald, Heinrich Schutz, John Thomas, John Purifoy, an anonymous folk song and a Psalm from the Geneva Psalter.

Vorhes earned a masterís degree in harp performance at the University of Arizona and a bachelorís degree in music and psychology at Macalester College in St. Paul, Minn. She is the principal harpist for regional symphonies and orchestras, and has served numerous choirs, orchestras and private events as a guest harpist.

There is no cost to attend this harp recital, sponsored by the Dordt College Music Department.
