Solar, biomass energy workshop Nov. 12

October 27, 2005

A demonstration of small-scale renewable energy systems will be presented at Dordt College on Saturday, Nov. 12, from 9-11:45 a.m. in the Science and Technology Center (Room 108). Ethan Brue

Anyone interested in learning about small-scale options for utilizing solar energy or biomass energy on a farm, residence or small business will appreciate the practical information presented in this short seminar. Demonstrations of working solar-thermal, solar-photovoltaic and biomass combustion-gasification systems (located on Dordt’s campus) will be presented.

Leading the seminar will be Ethan Brue (assistant professor of engineering at Dordt College) and Jerod Smeenk (associate scientist at Iowa State University, and Dordt engineering major from Class of ‘93), with support from the Iowa Energy Center. Both Brue and Smeenk have spent many years working in the design and operation of solar collectors and biomass energy systems. The focus of the seminar will be on topics of interest to farmers and persons in agribusiness, but everyone interested in learning more about small-scale renewable energy options is welcome to attend.

The seminar and demonstrations are free. However, space is limited, so pre-registration is requested by contacting Donna De Vries with your name, address, and phone number. For more information, you may also call De Vries at Dordt College 722-6293.
