New book has Dordt connections
October 30, 2005
The Business Writer, a new writer’s handbook, co-authored by two former Dordt College professors, Dr. Verne Meyer and Dr. John Van Rys, in collaboration with Pat Sebranek (Write Source Publishing), has been published by Houghton Mifflin’s College Division.
“This book represents help and feedback from many area business people, as well as Dordt students and colleagues,” commented author Verne Meyer. As one effort to gather practical feedback and information for the nearly 800-page volume, Meyer and Van Rys conducted a series of workshops and interviews with many business people, including some from Sioux Center businesses. Quotes, sample letters, and brochures contributed by participants from Groschopp, Interstates Engineering Inc., and Walstra Plumbing in Sioux Center, as well as Dordt College alumni, are featured in the book.
“The Business Writer is designed to serve as a practical guide for busy people in the workplace,” said Meyer. The spiral-bound book offers a quick-reference format that helps business professionals produce their best writing in the least amount of time.
Supported by Houghton Mifflin's many Web-based services, The Business Writer is also designed for use in college-level business-writing courses. In fact, drafts of the text have already been used for the past three years in business-writing courses at Dordt College.
The book is available at the Dordt College Bookstore and other retail outlets. For more information, contact the Dordt College Bookstore at 712-722-6420, or call Houghton Mifflin at 1-800-733-1717, ext. 4020.
Earlier books by the three authors include The Business Writer, Successful E-Mail Made E-Z, The College Writer, and Write for College.
