Alberda art show at Dordt gallery

August 26, 2005

An art exhibit by Jo Alberda, Sioux Center, is on display at the Dordt College Campus Center Art Gallery through Sunday, Oct. 2, open 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily.

Alberda is an emeritus art professor at Dordt College whose areas of interest include fiber art, photography, drawings and pottery. This exhibition includes about 35 pieces, including quilted wall art, weavings, stitch work, photography, and drawings based on her photographs.

“The one thing that holds all the elements together is the subject matter,” said Alberda. She adds that her primary interest has always been design and texture, and her artwork is an extension of the “Intro to Design 101” class which she taught at Dordt for many years before her retirement. Alberda received her education at Montana State University and has been an instructor of art at Dordt College for about 30 years, now serving as an adjunct instructor of elementary school art.

A reception for Alberda will be held at the Campus Center Art Gallery Thursday, Sept. 8, from 6:30-8 p.m. The reception is free and open to the public.
