Melikin Puppet Theatre

A free puppet show, “Dragon Feathers” will be presented at Dordt College’s Campus Center De Yager Student Activity Center on Saturday, July 2, at 10 a.m. and 8 p.m.

Presented by the nationally acclaimed Melikin Puppeteers, the show is a delightful collection of the myths, legends, fables and history of dragons, with “Merlin the Magician” sharing three of his favorite dragon stories through the art of puppetry: Stan Bolovan and the Dragon, The Reluctant Dragon, and Custard the Dragon.

As a grand finale, children selected from the audience will participate in a Chinese New Year dragon dance, with a 35 foot long Melikin dragon puppet.

The Melikin Puppets are the creations of Mel and LaVerne Biske, along with their sons, Neal and Jeff, Bolingbrook, Ill. They have toured the U.S. performing for children’s theater groups, school assembly programs and libraries since 1967.

The Melikins have performed nine times for the Puppeteers of America National Festival and have received the Citation of Excellence Award from an international organization of professional puppeteers.

Parents are encouraged to attend the show along with their children. There is no cost to attend this free event, hosted by Dordt College in conjunction with many other weekend Jubilee activities honoring the 50th anniversary of the college.
