Seven Dordt College students received their associate degree in nursing at St. Luke’s College on Friday, May 13, which will allow them to complete a Bachelor of Health Science degree at Dordt College next year.
Dordt College and St. Luke’s College collaborate in a 1-2-1 program, allowing students to attain a BHS degree by spending their first and fourth years in full-time study at Dordt, while attending the hospital-based training in Sioux City during their second and third years of education.
The seven Dordt College students awarded associate nursing degrees at St. Luke’s College were Jonathan Covey, Hull, IA; Leah De Groot, Oskaloosa, IA; Tracy Klemme, Nevada, IA; Roger Tubergen, Doon, IA; Lyndsey Van Eps, East Grand Forks, MN; Jody Van Zanten, Pella, IA; and Katrina Westra, Tulare, CA.
Jody Van Zanten was one of four students in the class to graduate Summa Cum Laude, while Leah De Groot and Roger Tubergen were among five nursing students in the 33 person class to graduate Cum Laude.
The associate of science in nursing degrees were awarded in a ceremony held at the Eppley Auditorium in Sioux City. Diplomas were presented by Willis Alberda, chair of St. Luke’s College Board of Directors. Presenting class honors was Michael Stiles, St. Luke’s chancellor.
Earlier in the day a pinning ceremony was conducted in which Karen Eberle, associate professor for St. Luke’s program, presented nursing pins to the graduates.
