High School, Campus-Community bands to perform

April 14, 2005

The Sioux Center High School Band and the Dordt College Campus-Community Band will present a concert at the B.J. Haan Auditorium in Sioux Center on Thursday, April 28, at 7:30 p.m.

The high school band, under the direction of Kyle Jahn, has selected four arrangements for the program: “Loch Lomond,” “Prairie Dances,” “Come, Sweet Death,” and “River of Life.”

The campus-community band, directed by Dr. Henry Duitman, consists of adult musicians from the area and instrumentalists from Dordt College. The band will perform a number featuring alto saxophone soloist Pamela DeHaan, arranged by Dordt Professor Emeritus, Dale Grotenhuis. DeHaan, a voice and saxophone instructor at Dordt, was the original soloist when the piece was first performed by the Dordt College Concert Band under the direction of Professor Grotenhuis in the early ’80s.

Also on the program will be a more popular selection by Iwai Ito entitled “Jungle Fantasy” that features the percussion section.

The concert is free, with a freewill offering being received to benefit music scholarships at Dordt College.
