Mount Marty

The president of Mount Marty College, Dr. James T. Barry, made an official visit to the campus of Dordt College Thursday, March 10.

Dr. Barry presented Dordt College President Carl E. Zylstra with a framed declaration, offering congratulations and well-wishes to Dordt College on the celebration of this institution’s 50th anniversary.

Citing Dordt College’s “desire to be widely and unabashedly known as a center for Reformational Scholarship and academic excellence,” the declaration noted the college’s growth and accomplishments over the past five decades, making mention of individuals and events that had a defining impact on the college.

Mount Marty is an academic community in the Catholic Benedictine liberal arts tradition, with the main campus in Yankton, S.D., and satellite locations in Sioux Falls and Watertown. It was founded in 1936 by the Sisters of Saint Benedict of Yankton, South Dakota and, like Dordt, functioned as a junior college before awarding its first Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science degrees in 1951.
