Dordt student awarded ADDY
February 23, 2005
The Dordt College Art Department was honored recently when a graphic design student, David Ver Meer, was named recipient of the top ADDY® award in the student division of the Advertising Federation of Sioux City competition.
An Award Show Reception was held at Sioux City’s Orpheum Theater on Saturday, February 19, with all contest entries on display. Twelve local businesses and four area college students received awards, from a total of 138 entries. Judges for the competition were design and advertising professionals from Minneapolis, Minn., and Fort Worth, Texas.
David Ver Meer won the first place gold ADDY award in the category “Sales Promotion Packaging” for a project entitled “Plastic Storm.” The project, completed over Christmas break, was the result of an individual studies course last semester. Ver Meer is a senior at Dordt, the son of Donald and Marilyn Ver Meer, Boyden.
The ADDY® Awards program honors excellence in advertising and cultivates the highest creative standards in the industry. The competition begins at the local level with 210 AAF member clubs across the nation which sponsor contests. These winners then proceed to 14 regional competitions, after which national finals are held.
