November 21, 2004

The Dordt College Lady Defenders are seeded fourth in the NAIA national volleyball tournament beginning Wednesday, December 1 at Point Loma University in San Diego, California.

The Lady Defenders, on the heels of their first ever regional championship, are the top seed in Pool D and are grouped with the host school--Point Loma, Cornerstone (Michigan), Georgetown (Kentucky) and Texas Wesleyan.

The Lady Defenders open play against Point Loma at 1:15 p.m. (Central time) Wednesday and will resume play with two matches on Thursday. The Lady Defenders face Texas Wesleyan, a team that suprised two rated foes in winning the Region VI championship, at 11:00 a.m. (Central time) and will face Georgetown (Kentucky) at 3:30 p.m. (Central time). The Lady Defenders and Georgetown played each other last year at the national tournament with Dordt winning 3-2 in pool play.

Dordt College will conclude pool play Friday, December 3 at 1:15 p.m. (Central time) against Cornerstone (Michigan). The Lady Defenders beat Cornerstone earlier this season.

Dordt was rated #5 in the last NAIA ranking, Cornerstone #8 and Georgetown #10.

The tournament field consists of four-five team pools with the pool champion and runner-up advancing to quarterfinal play on Friday night. The semifinals are scheduled for Saturday afternoon with the finals Saturday night.

This is the fourth time in the last five years the Lady Defenders have qualified for the national tournament and the sixth time in the elite field in school history.
