Dordt College Chamber Orchestra, Concert Band to perform

The Dordt College Concert Band and Chamber Orchestra will present a concert Friday, Dec. 3, at 7:30 p.m. at the B.J. Haan Auditorium. Concert Band

In the chamber orchestra portion of the concert, string bass player Josh Vander Plaats will be the featured soloist for “The Elephant” from “Carnival of the Animals” by Saint-Saens. Other soloists for the orchestra portion of the program include Lori Nibbelink, violin; Adrienne Gallimore and Julia Vander Wal, flute; and Hannah Hooyer and Hanna Ahrenholz, violin.

The Dordt College Concert Band’s selections for the program include “The Royal Fireworks Music” by Handel; “Toccata Marziale” by Vaughan Williams; “After the Gentle Rain” by Iannaccone, and a pair of Christmas selections. The euphonium soloist on “Rhapsody for Euphonium” by Curnow will be Darren DeVries.

The conductor for both groups is Dr. Henry Duitman, professor of music at Dordt College.

The concert is free and open to the public. A freewill offering will be taken to benefit Dordt College Music Scholarships.
