Directors of Kuyper Scholars Program to attend conference

November 8, 2004

Drs. Arnold Sikkema and Mary Dengler of Dordt College will attend the National Collegiate Honors Council in New Orleans November 10 through 13.

Sikkema and Dengler are co-directors of Dordt College’s new Kuyper Scholars Program. At the conference, Sikkema and Dengler will participate in a panel discussion on the perceived conflict between honors programs and the Christian mandate. They will also participate in numerous workshops and lectures, and they will study possible programs, grants, and fellowships for the Kuyper Scholars Program.

This will be the third conference that Dordt representatives have attended since committees were formed to initiate the Kuyper Scholars Program at Dordt College. The Kuyper Scholars program will officially begin in the fall of 2005. However, interested students have already been invited to participate in the KSP 151 pilot course in Rhetoric and Christian Scholarship as well as to contract with professors to do KSP projects in existing courses. Fifteen students are currently enrolled in KSP 151, which combines composition and communication in a study of Reformed scholarship and interdisciplinary studies.
