Harvest Celebration Saturday, November 6

October 28, 2004

Siouxland Partners for Christian Development will host a Harvest Celebration Saturday, Nov. 6, at 11:30 a.m. on the Dordt College farmland located south of the college on First St. E., formerly known as the Kuhl Farm.

The Siouxland Partners organization rents farmland from Dordt College, and with donated inputs and labor is able to raise “Farmer-to-Farmer” funds for assisting Nicaraguan farmers through Foods Resource Bank, a non-government humanitarian organization committed to providing food security in the developing world.

Siouxland Partners donations to Nicaragua are matched by USAID (United States Agency for International Development), an agency that helps people in developing countries escape from poverty and hunger.

A brief ceremony will be held before the crop is harvested and hauled to elevators by volunteer farmers with combines, wagons and semi trucks. Speakers will include Pastor Arturo Gomez, a Nicaraguan native now serving the Amistad Cristiana congregation in Sioux Center; and four Nicaraguans representing agencies in that country: ACJ (Association of Christian Youth), AMC (Christian Medical Association) and AICN (Association of Church of Christ in Nicaragua).

A harvest meal of hamburgers grilled on-site will be served. The public is invited to attend the harvest and the noon meal.
