Dordt College hosts parents, alumni

Students at Dordt College will be joined by more than 1,000 parents and family members for classes, a music festival, theater production, sporting events and special meals October 14-16.

Guests from both coasts, the country of Canada, and everywhere in between will be coming to the Dordt Campus for Parentsí Weekend 2004. The weekend offers an opportunity for family members of Dordt College students to get acquainted with the campus, meet professors and enjoy recreational activities with their children.

Fridayís activities begin with an invitation to parents to accompany their children to classes and get a feel for what they are studying and experiencing at Dordt College. Friday evening activities include JV and varsity womenís volleyball at the De Witt Gymnasium, competing with Bellevue University at 6 and 7:30 p.m. respectively.

The Fall Music Festival in the B.J. Haan Auditorium at 7:30 p.m. is also open to the public. This program offers a sampling of all the bands, choirs, the orchestra and other musical ensembles at Dordt College.

For the night owls, womenís 5-on-5 basketball will be played in the De Witt Gymnasium at 11:30 p.m., followed by Midnight Madness, the first exhibition of the menís 2004-05 basketball team.

A presidentís parent brunch and a siblings brunch will welcome weekend guests to Saturday morning activities, followed by the opportunity to visit with faculty and attend ďAcademics in ActionĒ classes.

The Dordt College Jazz Band will perform at the Campus Center at noon on Saturday, followed by womenís soccer versus Midland Lutheran on the Dordt Soccer Field at 1 p.m. and menís soccer versus Midland at 3 p.m.

The premier showing of a Dordt College Jubilee multimedia production, Vision at Work and Play, will be presented to registered guests Saturday afternoon and evening.

Blades Hockey will be offered at the All Seasons Center Saturday afternoon, while the football field will be the scene of a lacrosse game at 6 p.m. Also at 6 p.m., the JV volleyball squad will play alumni at the De Witt Gymnasium, followed by a varsity volleyball game versus College of St. Mary.
