Campus-Community Band season begins Sept. 30

September 14, 2004

A new season of Campus-Community Band at Dordt College will begin Thursday, Sept. 30, 7 p.m., at the rehearsal band room at the rear of the B.J. Haan Auditorium.

The campus-community band is open to all community adults who play wind or percussion instruments, as well as outstanding high school students with notes of recommendation from their high school directors. There are no fees to participate in Campus-Community Band at Dordt College, but participants are expected to regularly attend Thursday night practices, from 7-9 p.m. beginning Sept. 30 and continuing throughout the season until the final concert scheduled for Thursday, April 28, 2005.

Dr. Henry Duitman will direct the band, now in its second season. Duitman also conducts the Dordt College Concert Band, Dordt’s Chamber Orchestra, and the Northwest Iowa Symphony Orchestra.

The campus-community band was organized last year to enable a larger cross-section of area musicians to study and perform significant literature for winds and percussion. In its first year, about 10 community members joined college and high school students in presenting concerts to the community.

This year the band has five scheduled performances, the first being Friday, Oct. 15, at the Dordt College Fall Music Festival.
