Enrollment on target for '04-'05

September 9, 2004

The new academic year at Dordt College has begun with an increase in the number of incoming freshmen, an increase in the number of transfer students, and an increase in the number of students returning after a semester or more away.

Fall classes began Aug. 26, bringing 347 new freshmen to campus. The total fall 2004 enrollment at Dordt College is 1,284 students, representing 31 states, 6 Canadian provinces, and including 15 students from other foreign countries. In addition to incoming freshmen, 63 upperclass students transferred to or restarted classes at Dordt College this fall. Seventeen area high school students are also getting a jump-start on college classes by taking courses on campus this semester.

During the summer months, 37 students were enrolled in Master of Education courses.

A strong retention rate is another bright spot for Dordt College. “The fact that a high percentage of students who start here, stay here, indicates student expectations are being met,” commented Dr. Carl E. Zylstra, president of Dordt College. “We continue to focus on quality and variety of programs to meet the needs of all our students.”
