April 23, 2004

Brenda Janssen, a Dordt College senior from Beamsville, Ontario, Canada, will present a vocal recital on Saturday, May 1, 7:30 p.m. in the B.J. Haan Auditorium, Dordt College.

Janssen is a theology major with a minor in vocal performance and church music.

Also participating in the recital will be Marlys Grimm, piano, and Stephen De Wit, tenor. In scenes from the comedic opera, “Old Maid and the Thief,” Liz McPherson, soprano, will perform the part of Miss Todd, while Joe Hoksbergen, baritone, will sing the role of a beggar named Bob.

A beautiful set of Samuel Barber's solo pieces are also on the program, taking the audience from grim realities on earth to the true reality of perfection in heaven.

Janssen is the daughter of Harold and Janet Janssen, and is a voice student of Deb Vogel. She has received honorable mention at the Iowa State Competition of the National Association for Teachers of Singing (NATS) and was a finalist at the regional competition of Lewis and Clark Chapter of NATS.

The public is invited to both the recital and a reception following performance.
