I have been an RN for over 28 years. I attended Calvin College and graduated from Blodgett Memorial Medical Center School of Nursing in 1983. In 2005, I received my BScN from the University of Alberta. My background is the critical care environment, with time spent in Mi, Utah, California, Colorado and Canada. I worked in the adult critical care areas for 18 years- with my specialty being trauma and post cardiac surgery. It was in 2001, while living in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada  that I entered the colorful world of Pediatric ICU nursing. That specialty in Edmonton consisted of caring for children with pediatric congenital heart defects, before and after surgery.  Since August of 2008 I have been the Clinical Outreach Coordinator for the Dept of Nursing. My roll is to work with the senior RN students, namely to place them in their community clinical experience. I  work with clinical sites that provide these experiences,  and assist in Dordt's campus nursing visit days.

I am married to Gary De Young, who teaches in the Math and Computer Science Dept. We have 2 boys- Andrew a sophomore at Dordt and Jared a senior at Western Christian High School.
